Jefferson Scholars Expand Their Horizons

CHASS sponsors a number of dual degree programs that allow students to combine scientific or professional study with a focus in the humanities or social sciences.

One such dual degree option, the Jefferson Scholars program, enables students to earn a degree in CHASS and a second in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Students are selected and invited to join the group as entering freshmen. They take special courses, have opportunities to meet scientists, scholars and government officials, and foster a culture of support and fellowship through service. Their senior capstone experience involves research that examines scientific and humanistic perspectives on a question of interest to the student.

This year, the program added an international experiential learning trip. The inaugural trip to the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences is detailed in this article from the CALS news center.
