Undergrad Pursues Mobile Eco-App Research

After transferring to NC State in 2015, Tarang Malaviya says he was inspired to "seek solutions to current problems." So, that's what he did. Volunteering to assist a doctoral student with environmental communication research, Malaviya helped study how mobile phone applications can help the public make sustainable choices.

GROW Project Seeks Researchers to Study Women and Girls of Color

NC State University is recruiting researchers from all disciplines to participate in a national initiative aimed at increasing research that focuses on women and girls of color. Led by Humanities and Social Sciences Assistant Dean Blair Kelley, NC State's recruitment effort comes in advance of an April conference on the issue at Wake Forest University.

Aspiring to be osteoarchaeologists, federal prosecutors and museum curators, the latest cohort of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean’s Scholars have big plans for the future. Thanks to contributions from college donors, the seven recipients of this year’s Dean’s Scholar Award can also plan on being something else — experiential learners.

Students Recognized for Service, Leadership

NC State’s Alumni Association pays special attention to students who emerge as campus leaders, knowing the special traits these undergraduates hone here will serve them – and the wider world – once they graduate. Each year, the Alumni Association recognizes a few of the university’s seniors who are role models for leadership and service with the Mathews Medal. Two of the four 2015 recipients are Humanities and Social Sciences students: Austin Bath and Alex Parker.

Social Justice, Sustainability, and the F Word

Lauren Frey takes the F word seriously. So seriously that she created a course around it. For that and other work to promote feminism (that F word) and gender equality on campus, in the community and internationally, NC State’s Council on the Status of Women awarded Frey ’17 with its Equity for Women student award.
