An Intensive, Interdisciplinary Study of Ebola, Maymester-Style

Maymester offers students intensive learning opportunities, including an interdisciplinary exploration of the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Maymester, a spring program that compresses a semester's study into three weeks, was successfully piloted by Humanities and Social Sciences over the last several years and is now being adopted by colleges across NC State University.

Senior Leigh-Kathryn Bonner created quite a buzz with the nonprofit she founded - literally. Bonner’s organization Bee Downtown has over 120,000 bees in various observation hives and has recently partnered with Burt’s Bees to open the state’s largest observation hive at Durham's American Tobacco Campus.

Alums Create “Harbinger”

NC State alumni Kieran Moreira (Film Studies) and Andrew Martin (Textile Engineering) bring their new independent film to the Hunt Library. HARBINGER is a live-action, fantasy-drama, seen through a child’s perspective that showcases Raleigh and North Carolina as a premier filmmaking location. The story follows Harold, an adopted ten-year-old boy, who climbs to the top of an oak tree in hopes of catching his unborn baby brother falling from space. Martin and Moreira will be on hand for a post-film discussion. Run time is approximately 30 minutes.

Blair Kelley Named Assistant Dean

Dr. Blair L.M. Kelley has been named assistant dean for interdisciplinary studies and international programs at NC State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The CHASS Interdisciplinary Studies Program awards an array of cross-disciplinary undergraduate degrees.
